Reductions in Stroud Parking Charges

From today, it will be free to park in Stroud District Council's multi-storey car park on the London Road after 3pm, and from 5pm in all of its car parks in the town. The move is designed to help residents, visitors and businesses and boost the local economy.
Councillor Nigel Cooper, cabinet member for finance for Stroud District Council, said:
'The free after three parking at our multi-storey car park will help boost visitors to the town centre in the afternoons and by allowing people to park for free after five, rather than six o'clock, in all our charging car parks, it will be easier to grab a quick coffee after work or pop into a shop to buy something before they close.'
Ian Morrison, landlord of The Retreat wine bar in Church Street, Stroud, which is around the corner from a car park said:
'This is excellent news. With many offices closing for the day at five or half-past five, it means that people can pick up their dry cleaning, pop into shops for a last minute item and perhaps even drop in for a coffee or drink at the cafes and pubs in town. I like it!'
Carole Garfield, chair of the Stroud Chamber of Commerce and Trade, added:
'We are pleased that Stroud District Council responded to the comments of local businesses and residents by offering this incentive to visit our great town centre. We are delighted that our customers will be able to continue to call in to see us in Stroud - free after 3pm at the Brunel Mall multi-storey and after 5pm in other car parks.'
On the same day a reduction in parking charges in Stonehouse and Painswick, from 30p for the first hour to 20p, and from 50p for 2 hours to 40p, will come into force.
