The Spice House in Stroud is a real treat. Having eaten at many of the eateries in Gloucestershire I would say this really is a place you should visit.
Yes it isn't the most highly decorated or luxurious surroundings but the food is of the highest standard and the customer service is excellent.
We visited early on a Friday night as a party of 9 which included two children young children (one 6 and one 2). Within half an hour my son accidently knocked a plate of the table and they were so kind about it that I didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
We all had a mix of starters the usual stacks of Poppadum's, Onion Bhaji's (£2.50) and Samosa's (£2.75) with salads. The Bhaji's were crispy, sweet and not drenched in oil as have many been that I have eaten of late and my son even liked the Samosa's. Perfect.
For our main course my partner, son and I had a Lamb Tikka Biryani £ 8.25 and Lamb Shashlik (special spices prepared with onion, capsicum and tomatoes, barbecued in a clay oven £ 7.95) and we were not disappointed. The Biryani came with a delicious sauce packed with vegetables and the Lamb Shashlik which came out on a sizzling hot plate was mouth wateringly good.
The staff seriously couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and even charmed my two year old son!
For your information they don't have an alcohol license which I always like as you get to bring your own favourites at a fraction of the price. For a huge amount of food it worked out as approximately £15 per person which we thought was an absolute bargain!!
They provide free home delivery and run regular promotional offers such as the Sunday Buffet for £10.95 for as much as you can eat.
